Join us at the museum as we welcome Aunty Barb Walker to demonstrate the traditional art of basket weaving.
Barbara Walker is a proud Wiradjuri woman from Wagga Wagga, NSW, who practises and teaches traditional coiling weaving (wadya waybarra).
Come along and watch Aunty Barb using traditional coiling weaving techniques to weave her fibre into baskets. You are also invited to have a go at weaving for yourself between 10am-midday and 1pm - 3pm.
This is a free event in celebration of our new exhibition Walking through a Songline.
About the artist
Barbara has always had an interest in many art forms. Being able to share weaving techniques, for many different applications, with all who are wanting to learn, brings her satisfaction. She has just completed Certificate 3 in Wiradjuri Language to be able to promote the use of traditional language; and incorporates language in weaving, to help people connect to culture.
