The Binangar Centre

The Binangar Centre celebrates Aboriginal people, their culture and history in a showcase of local stories from the Traditional Owners of the Toowoomba region.
The name Binangar, meaning listening place, was chosen by Jarrowair elder Mr. Paddy Jerome. Since opening in 2001, the Centre has become a popular part of the Museum and a meeting place for all visitors.
The centre showcases local stories on the history of the Traditional Owners of the Toowoomba region. These stories celebrate centuries of local indigenous history, culture and people up to the present. In pride of place is “Cunningham’s Gap Crossing, 1995” a detailed and thought provoking painting by Vincent Serico, a local Cherbourg artist.
This centre focuses on the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people of the region and the kinship they have with the land, plants and animals of their home.
