Excavating MacGregor: reconnecting a nineteenth century collection from Papua New Guinea

Series editor: Geraldine Mate, PhD
Issue editor: Robin Torrence, PhD
Published: 2022

Memoirs of the Queensland Museum – Culture Volume 13 presents a thematic volume written as part of the ARC-funded Discovery grant 'Excavating MacGregor: Re-connecting a colonial museum collection'. The papers present a detailed analysis of the acquisition of the Official collection, and makes the collection more accessible to descendant communities. Using the mix of objects in the collection and their physical attributes, together with painstaking archival research, the papers explore relationships between colonial officers and the Papuan community, while considering the various and problematic colonial interactions through which the objects were obtained. This volume is available in hardcopy from the Museum Shop.
