Education and Engagement: The University of Queensland

The University of Queensland joined Queensland Museum as the Academic Partner of SparkLab from 2020–2023.

This Academic Partnership saw the development of a range of learning and engagement activities centered on STEM, which leveraged the University’s own scientific expertise whilst generating meaningful opportunities for engagement of UQ staff and across the general population.

The mutually agreed objectives of the collaboration were the creation of memorable and effective learning experiences to nurture lifelong learners, the application of STEM knowledge through real-world experimentation and an emphasis on the relevance of STEM to our daily lives.

Throughout the course of this partnership, over 328,671 visitors have attended SparkLab, and over 434 teachers have participated in SparkLab professional development programs, enhancing their skills and embedding the STEM focus in a new generation of educators.

Partnerships like this expand and enhance science capability in Queensland and are fundamental to creating meaningful, multi-generational learning experiences that inspire the future scientists and researchers of tomorrow.
