Energy Queensland has supported the Queensland Museum's Repatriation program since 2021. Their investment has enabled the protection of cultural material that otherwise may have been disposed of and lost for all time, as well as funding research on items surrendered to our collections by private collectors, resulting in the successful identification of each item’s provenance, history and significance.
Pictured are Ground Edge Axes and Upper and Lower Grinding Stones, which the museum was able to recover and protect thanks to Energy Queensland. These artefacts, which were at risk of being disposed of, were surrendered to Queensland Museum from a private collector and are now being cared for by Queensland Museum’s Repatriation Unit.
Repatriation is crucial and culturally sensitive work that plays an important part in reconciliation, truth-telling, healing and justice. The museum is proud to partner with organisations such as Energy Queensland who share the commitment, principles and priorities that we do.
