Don't miss the opportunity to try your hand at heating and shaping metal with our Blacksmithing Taster Workshops. These three-hour workshops are the perfect opportunity to be introduced to blacksmithing, get a hands-on understanding of the materials, equipment and terminology.

In addition to learning the basics, you'll see demonstrations in drawing, upsetting, squaring, rounding, riveting and barley twisting. Plus, participants will have the opportunity to choose one of three unique projects to create and take home with you - S hooks, a bottle opener or a BBQ steak flipper. 

Bookings are essential and places are limited.

What you need to know:

  • Participants must be 16 years and over
  • No previous experience required
  • Bookings are non-refundable and non-transferable
  • Participants must declare any condition or injury that may impact their ability to safely participate in the workshop
  • Please arrive 10 minutes early
  • Please bring your own water bottle
  • Please wear appropriate clothing, including closed-in shoes, long sleeves and long pants

Meet your instructors

Rob Scully and Wayne Schmidt have been blacksmithing for more than 30 years between them, using traditional methods and techniques to create forged items for any time in history. 

Based in Ipswich, they use historical equipment and authentic antique bellows or hand-cranks. Well-respected artists and blacksmiths, they have travelled across Queensland sharing their passions for the craft and teaching the heritage trade to a variety of audiences.
