Printmaking meets rail heritage at the Queensland Museum Railway Workshops

Want to try your hand at traditional letterpress printing? Join us after hours at the museum for an Ink & Drink session, where you'll explore the magic of vintage type, laser engraved printing plates, and hand-carved relief printing blocks set against the backdrop of historic locomotives and working machinery.

For six weeks only, Moveable Type Studio, a mobile printmaking space built inside a converted 40-foot shipping container, is pulling into the station. This isn’t your average art workshop—this is where heritage, creativity, and engineering collide.

Whether you're a curious beginner or a creative soul looking for something new, this is your chance to roll up your sleeves, pull a print, and sip a local brew. It’s hands-on, social, and completely unique. You'll leave with your own original print as a keepsake.

Bookings are essential and spaces are limited.

What you need to know:

  • Participants must be 18 years and over
  • No previous experience required
  • Bookings are non-refundable and non-transferable
  • Participants must declare any condition or injury that may impact their ability to safely participate in the workshop
  • Please arrive 10 minutes early
  • If you have any access or support requirements to participate fully in this event, please get in touch with the museum’s friendly staff to discuss your options

Meet the instructors

Artists Clint Harvey and Dzintra Menesis will guide you through this exclusive evening workshop. Clint brings decades of experience in design and print education, along with a priceless collection of antique letterpress equipment. Dzintra adds a bold contemporary edge, using linocut and woodblock techniques to layer texture, story, and visual punch.
