Book in for our facilitated school program Hands-on History where students interpret and analyse museum collections to learn about the past.

Program overview

In this facilitated school program, students investigate the collections of Queensland Museum Cobb+Co to develop skills in object and photographic interpretation. Students handle and interpret a variety of real objects and historical photographs to determine what these sources can tell us about the past. They also learn about why museums collect objects, and how these objects are cared for by museum staff.

Learning outcomes

Students will:

  • explore the collections of Queensland Museum Cobb+Co, define what makes a collection and understand how museums look after their collections
  • use investigation skills to interpret objects and photographs
  • understand how objects help us to remember stories from the past and tell stories of the present
  • understand the difference between primary and secondary sources
  • use a range of communication skills to express ideas.
