Book in for our facilitated school program iCollect where students discover how objects and collections help us remember the past.

Program overview

In this facilitated school program, students investigate the collections of Queensland Museum Cobb+Co to discover how objects help us remember the past. Students handle a variety of real objects and photographs during the program.

Introductory activity
A Cobb+Co staff member will introduce students to the concept of collections and how objects help us remember our past. Students will learn how to interpret hands-on objects by describing what they can see and by asking questions about them. They will learn how to look after collections by following museum practices in their investigations.

Gallery activity
Students will explore the museum’s galleries to further investigate the collections of Queensland Museum Cobb+Co. Teachers will be required to direct this activity.

Learning outcomes

Students will:

explore the collections of Queensland Museum Cobb+Co and define what makes a collection
use investigation skills to ask questions about and interpret objects
investigate how museums look after their collections and learn how to look after their own collections
understand how objects help us to remember stories from the past and tell stories of the present.
