Book in for our facilitated school program Kabul Dreaming to First Contact where students explore the diversity of Aboriginal cultures through stories, object interpretation and hands-on activities.

Program overview

Students will develop an understanding of the cultures and histories of the Traditional Owners of the Toowoomba region through hands-on objects and stories. They will also investigate the diversity of Aboriginal cultures throughout Queensland before European settlement and the impact of early European settlement on the Traditional Owners.

Introductory activity
A Cobb+Co staff member will share an interactive story about Jean, a young girl who discovered the sacred Aboriginal stone arrangement site, Gummingurru, on her family farm near Meringandan and its return to the Traditional Owners. Students will then consider and discuss the impact of early European settlement on the Traditional Owners through the interpretation of Vincent Serico’s painting, Cunningham’s Gap Crossing.

Gallery activity
Students will explore The Binangar Centre to further investigate the diversity of Aboriginal cultures and interpret objects and stories through interactive activities. Teachers will be required to direct this activity.
