Program overview

In this facilitated school program, students will interact with objects and listen to stories to discover how people lived in Australia in the past.

Introductory activity
A Cobb+Co staff member will introduce students to the concept of change over time using stories and a large variety of objects that were used in the past, including vehicles, household items, toys and school items. Students will compare the objects from the past with the present to identify similarities and differences and examine how technology has changed over time.

Gallery activity
Students will explore the museum’s galleries to investigate how objects and the roles of family members have changed over time. Students will play olden day games and role play in the Coach Stop interactive play area. Teachers will be required to direct this activity.

Learning outcomes

Students will:

  • investigate how people lived in Australia in the past by interpreting objects and exploring the stories of people who lived and worked during this time
  • understand that objects help us remember stories from the past and tell the stories of the present
  • understand the importance of museums and their collections
  • use a range of communication skills to express ideas.
