Soar into summer with wing-inspired fun for all ages — wildlife shows, creative workshops, bird talks and curious encounters inspired by Insect Agency at the museum.

Fly in for our Wings Wildlife Show! Kids 3–12 can meet birds, insects and other winged wonders up close, with big surprises, fun facts and a great photo moment. Afterwards, dive into themed craft and summer activities inspired by the creatures you’ve met.

Join Brisbane artist Deb Mostert for a 90-minute sketching session for ages 16+. Explore the markings and forms of insect specimens, sharpening your observation, composition and technique as you create your own illustrated masterpiece.
Tuesday 20 January

Calling all young twitchers and seasoned birders! Join local biologist and birding expert Mick Atzeni for an engaging three-hour workshop. Learn to identify local species, recognise their calls, explore birdwatching hotspots, and get tips on equipment, apps, and citizen science.

Kids and teens 10+ can explore cyanotype with artisan Joy Cook, creating stunning blue-and-white nature-themed prints using leaves, flowers, feathers and insect-inspired objects. Safe, non-toxic, and full of hands-on creative fun.

Learn how to collect, mount, preserve and present an insect collection, then mount your own Australian butterfly and beetle take home in this unique workshop for ages 8 and up.

Discover the fascinating world of ants with the National Fire Ant Eradication Program. Through games, activities and live demonstrations, families will learn how to identify ants and help protect our communities from fire ants. Recommended for primary school aged students but open to all ages.
