General admission

General admission tickets to the museum are available upon arrival or online. All exhibitions are included with admission.

Annual Pass holders receive unlimited free entry to the museum. Purchase your Annual Pass online or upon arrival.

Townsville and Regional Residents
Locals' admission is only available to purchase upon arrival to the museum. Simply show proof of residency when purchasing your tickets.

Townsville Residents
Residents of Townsville are half price of general admission.

Free Entry for Locals Day is held on the 2nd Tuesday of each month, outside public and school holidays. On this day entry to the museum is free for Townsville residents.

Regional Residents
Residents of Hinchinbrook, Charters Towers and Burdekin receive free entry to the museum thanks to the generous support of their local council.

FAQs

For Hinchinbrook, Charters Towers and Burdekin visitors, explore the museum for free during our opening hours with proof of residency. No bookings are required.

For Townsville residents who receive half price entry, admission must be purchased upon arrival with proof of residency.

For other visitors, general admission into the museum is ticketed, however pre-booking is not required. For convenience you can purchase your tickets online before your visit, or at the museum during opening hours upon arrival.

Please bring your ticket on your mobile device to assist with limiting contact. We need to scan the barcode on each ticket for entry. Please have your mobile device ready.

Whilst the museum does not have a cloakroom, luggage storage may be available upon request. Just ask our friendly staff upon entry.

If you've lost an item while visiting the museum, please contact us. All lost property handed in and/or found will be written in the Lost and Found Register and items stored in a secure location. Lost property will be held for three months, at the end of that time items will be disposed of, recycled, or given to charity.

All Museum of Tropical Queensland tickets are available through our ticketing provider, QTIX. By purchasing a ticket you agree to the QTIX Ticketing Terms and Conditions.

Health Care Card holders

If you have purchased a Health Care Card ticket to the museum, please have your valid Australian Government issued ‘Health Care’ or ‘Health Card’ ready to show staff.

Companion Card holders

If you have a Companion Card holder ticket to the museum, please have your valid Queensland Government issued ‘Companion Card’ ready to show staff.

Third Party Resellers

QTIX and Eventbrite are the official ticketing service for Museum of Tropical Queensland exhibitions and events. Any tickets purchased through unauthorised sales channels may be seized or cancelled without refund or exchange and the bearer of the ticket may be denied admission. Unauthorised sales channels include Viagogo, eBay and Gumtree.

  • Give each other space – stay 1.5m apart from others.
  • Wash and sanitise your hands frequently and thoroughly.
  • Face masks may be required subject to government guidelines, keep one handy if you can’t socially distance inside.
  • Stay home if you are unwell and always cover coughs and sneezes.
