Tickets & entry

Quieter times
Queensland Museum Tropics is usually quieter between 2pm and 4pm on school days with our quietest month being February.

Service animals
We welcome service dogs, however in the interest of a safe and healthy visit for all guests and the protection of our state’s historical collection, we ask you leave all other animals at home.

Purchasing tickets
To avoid queues consider purchasing your tickets online prior to your visit. Find more about admission here.

You can print your barcoded ticket at home using the PDF sent to you, or open the PDF and use the barcode on your phone, ready to be scanned on entry to the exhibition.

Printing or scanning your ticket will allow you faster access to the museum on busy days.

Companion Card program
We recognise the Queensland Government's Companion Card program. The companion of a Companion Card Holder is entitled to free entry.

If you have a Companion Card holder ticket to an exhibition or event, please have your valid Queensland Government issued ‘Companion Card’ ready to show staff.

For card examples please visit the Queensland Government website.

Moving around the museum

Accessible parking can be found across the road to the museum.

Wheelchair access
All entrances and areas in the museum are wheelchair accessible. Lifts are located in the centre of the building to enable access to all levels of the museum.

There is seating around the museum and in the Galley Café on Level 2. Space for wheelchairs is set aside at all of our events and activities, including lectures, workshops and shows.

You can borrow a wheelchair for use within the museum, just ask our friendly staff upon arrival. They are free of charge and subject to availability. Motorised wheelchairs are permitted in Queensland Museum Tropics.

While there are no toilets inside our exhibitions in the interest of conservation, there are single user/accessible toilets on Ground level and Level 1 in the museum.

There are separate Family Rooms on Ground Level and Level 1 with fold down change tables.

Queensland Museum campuses provides access to eduroam. Explore who is eligible and how to connect to eduroam.

'Eduroam' is a global wireless network access service providing users internet access at certain educational institutions such as universities across Queensland, interstate, and across the world.

This wireless network is available for staff and students that have eduroam access at their home institution.

Eduroam is available to all Queensland Museum locations such as Queensland Museum, Collections and Research Centre, Hendra, Queensland Museum Rail Workshops, Queensland Museum Cobb+Co, and Queensland Museum Tropics.

For a full list, please visit eduroam's website.

Please see our 'How to' documents depending on what Operating system you are using to connect to eduroam.

When connecting to eduroam, you are required to comply with our Acceptable Use of Information and Communication Technology Resources

When you’re in a Queensland Museum location and connecting to eduroam, due to relative complexity of wireless and eduroam infrastructure, you may have issues in getting a network connection due to several reasons. For example, recent change of password, changed device configuration, overlapping eduroam wireless network.

If you are a Queensland Museum staff member, please log this to IT accordingly.

If you are a visiting person connecting to eduroam, please log this issue to your home institution's IT Helpdesk.

If this is not possible, or if your home institution cannot resolve the issue, visiting users may contact the respective museum location contact number for support.

Sensory friendly sessions

Sensory friendly sessions are available throughout the year where we make accommodations to support visitors who prefer a quieter, sensory-friendly experience.
