During this unique walking tour, Rob will guide you through the Boiler Shop and share his expertise into the historical machinery and the commitment and practices of the past workers to produce and maintain Queensland’s iconic steam trains.

Rob Shiels, Curator of Transport – Queensland Museum Rail Workshops:
Rob Shiels has curated a number of exhibitions including The Sunshine Route – 100 years of Queensland’s North Coast Line which is currently on display at Rail Workshops until July next year.

Previously a Queensland Museum Collection Manager, Rob specialised in moving large and unique museum objects including locomotives, buses, cars, wagons and carriages, generators, tanks, rail motors and high voltage electrical infrastructure.

Rob’s research areas include the use of railways in the World War I, unionism, railways in Queensland, railway sporting and social clubs and general Queensland history.
