The Workshops were built between 1878 and the 1980s and added to the Queensland Heritage Register in 1997. Our venues boast exceptional character and charm sitting proudly on the original site of Queensland's first ever rail workshops.

We have created the perfect balance of retaining its heritage and unique characteristics but updated it to offer a blank canvas space so you can design your own modern wedding or event with heritage at its heart.

As the end of the academic year approaches, South East Queensland's students have one thing on their minds — Formal night!

We welcome you to celebrate your school or university event in style at the museum for the ultimate in space, flexibility and industrial style.

The museum boasts a massive outdoor space that's ideal for marquees, stages, bands and even fireworks to light up this important night for your graduating students. Plus we have under cover space that can accommodate 500 or more.

Wedding hire

Our stunning heritage listed grounds were built back in the late 1800s. We are located in North Ipswich, on the original site of Queensland’s first ever railway workshop and boasts endless character and charm. Our true secret lies in our beautiful outdoor spaces with breathtaking heritage buildings as your backdrop. It’s the perfect setting for pre-drinks and capturing those all-important photographs. Step into Queensland’s story and host your modern wedding here with heritage at its heart.

There’s an array of spaces available for hire plus a variety of packages to choose from. We place great emphasis on working with you to create your perfect day and we will be with you every step of the way!

Express wedding hire 

After an overwhelming number of requests for more intimate wedding packages, we decided to create The Coupler.

An awesome, affordable and intimate wedding ceremony and casual reception package for $1,850 including catering for 20 guests and a $300 bar tab.

Available during opening hours of 9.30am – 4pm. Additional charges apply beyond 4pm.

The ceremony:

Walking down the aisle.

Choose from two beautiful outdoor garden settings. Say “I do” under a gorgeous fig tree or on the Powerhouse forecourt.

We provide the beautiful backdrop for friends and families to come together and celebrate your most momentous day.

The setup:

Everything you need and more! This is a four hour venue hire package that includes ceremony and casual reception set up for 20 guests.

The great news is you do not have to lift a finger! We set up timber bench seats in your ceremony space, a register table and chairs plus floral aisle decorations.

After the ceremony while you’re having your wedding photos in front of industrial-chic buildings or vintage trains, your guests can wander the grounds and inside the museum.

Meanwhile, our team sets up your reception area with:

  • Crostini station with delicious gourmet dips, cheese, crackers, olives, meatballs, mini quiches, sandwiches and seasonal fruits
  • Dessert station (This is your cake table with knife so it doubles as dessert. Complimentary cutting and plattering up for guests included)
  • Garden bar ($300 bar tab included and then cash bar with Eftops available)
  • Timber benches and picnic blankets scattered around

Once your allocated 4 hours has finished, simply up and leave, making sure you take your personal belongings and we take care of the pack down.

Upgrade your reception to a picnic package add $450

Additional guests $40 per person.

Memorial & Celebration catering

One of the most over looked until the last minute details surrounding a funeral, memorial service, celebration of life or a wake is catering and even the venue. During a time of loss, you can rely on the team here at the museum because we have ample space available and a great catering service to relieve stress and much of the burden.

When someone passes away, your whole world gets instantly upset and the amount of stress you’re instantly under feels truly insurmountable. So choose us to help. You won’t have to deal with catering, venue set up and the clean up afterwards. That’s our job.

Our venue is accessible and parking is free making it effortless for everybody at a time of sadness.

Bring your loved ones together comfortably and casually and celebrate the life of someone truly special.

Take comfort knowing that we handle the details for you, from preparing and serving the food and beverages to providing tables, chairs, linens and even floral arrangements if you choose. We also tidy up so you’re not left with the dirty work.

To help you in providing some comfort and nourishment to your guests, we’ve put together some helpful tips and things to consider to help ease your stress surrounding ordering catering for a memorial service reception.

  1. Pick a date and choose a space within the museum that suits you. Our team can help you to decide based on your needs.
  2. Choose the type of food you would like to offer, nibbles with drinks or a more formal celebratory meal, or something in between.
  3. Estimate how many will be in attendance.
  4. Advise if children are coming. We offer child-centric catering and a great space for them to run around safely.
  5. We will make sure your memorial catering reflects family traditions, culture or even favourite colours that may help to bring happiness, warmth and comfort to you and your guests.
