AUSTRALIAN PREMIERE
Step into a night market of the future, where science, creativity and imagination collide.
Bat Night Market tells the tales of the extraordinary bat species, highlighting their vital role in our global ecosystem and why their conservation is more crucial than ever. Set in an imagined night market where bat species are extinct, Bat Night Market explores what interspecies resourcefulness and creative food solutions might look like, in the not-so-distant future.
We invite visitors to celebrate these enigmatic animals, in a free, self-led experience that blends science, art and innovation.
Bat Night Market is an international collaboration between artist Kuang-Yi Ku, Taiwan/Netherlands and designer Robert Charles Johnson, UK.
Original production co-commissioned by LIFT and Taipei Performing Arts Centre, and presented at Science Gallery London part of King’s College London and Taipei Performing Arts Centre.
This event is presented as part of World Science Festival Brisbane (WSFB) 2026. Entering its 11th year, WSFB invites you to dive into the interconnected worlds that make up our magnificent universe, from 20 – 29 March.
This is a self-led experience. We recommend 30 minutes to explore the Market. The duration will vary depending on your pace and engagement through the experience.
This drop-in experience does not include any food or beverage. If you are interested in experiencing one of our batty, artist-led Bat Night Market – Immersive Performances on Friday 20 March or Saturday 21 March at 6pm or 8pm, bookings are available now.
