In Search of Ancient Queensland
Queensland's fossil record stretches across some 1.65 billion years and it is preserved almost entirely in sedimentary rocks. Deep weathering and erosion has destroyed much of the fossil record and this is reflected through the variety of locations of fossil-bearing rocks across the state. Did you know that the history of life on earth is told through rocks? Did you know that the history of the Earth's surface can be told by looking at the fossils that have been found from different time periods?
