Scott Cutmore

Dr Scott Cutmore is a Senior Research Scientist and Curator of Parasitology at Queensland Museum.

Scott joined Queensland Museum in 2022 and has worked at the University of Queensland for the past 10 years researching the systematics of a wide range of trematode families, a major lineage of marine parasites, in the Tropical Indo-West Pacific

He completed his PhD studies at the University of Queensland where he studied the undescribed fauna of tetraphyllidean cestodes (tapeworms) that infest sharks of Moreton Bay, South-East Queensland.

Current research projects include how trematodes infect herbivorous reef fishes, and understanding three other trematode families: the Gorgoderidae, Transversotrematidae and Aporocotylidae.

Integrating classical morphological taxonomy with phylogenetic and ecological data for species delineation and higher-level trematode systematics, Dr Cutmore aims to illuminate how these three enigmatic families have managed to exploit such a wide range of fish throughout the Tropical Indo-west Pacific.
