Enter another world through our Ancient Seas and Reefs exhibition and discover the enormous sea creatures who once ruled Queensland's ancient inland sea.

Track the changes of the Queensland landscape over millions and millions of years, through the Devonian and Cretaceous periods of time where inland seas, ancient reefs and the gigantic marine reptiles inhabited the Earth.

Things to see and do:

  • See the full scale reconstruction of the Platypterigius - the enormous sea creature whose fossilised remains were found in Outback Queensland.
  • View the large collection of ancient marine invertebrates including Nautiloids and ammonites.
  • Discover the story of Elliot, the Titanosaur whose remains were found near Winton in Queensland.
  • Learn about the ancient reef systems located near Charters Towers during the Devonian Period (380 million years ago).
  • Get an insight into Queensland's Cretaceous dinosaurs, including the Muttaburrasaurus.
