Being a maritime archaeologist involves working as a scientist, historian, and a detective.

Join us at Queensland Museum Tropics, Townsville to put your detective caps on and dive deeper as you unravel the mysteries of the museum in our Maritime Mystery Adventure workshops these school holidays.

Find out what it means to be a Maritime Archaeologist and compile your investigation notes in your Detective Notebook as you:  

  • Reveal the secrets of our seabed Dig Pit
  • Piece together the past with our Photomosaic Puzzle
  • Record your findings to share your research with other detectives
  • Test out hand signals that maritime archaeologists use on dives 
  • Get your photo taken for your Maritime Mystery Detective Agent ID

Bookings Essential. 

Suitable for ages 6-12.
Children must be accompanied by a guardian – parents and carers are free, no need to book a ticket.
Pram Parking Available. Babes in arms free but young children are unable to participate due to choking hazards.
Younger siblings are allowed to be in the room but are unable to participate.

Activity Notes:

The dig pit has raised edges (approximately 30cm) that may be a barrier to access for some children.
Enclosed shoes are encouraged to be worn in the dig pit.
Workshops run for approximately 45minutes.
This activity does not include entry to James Cameron – CHALLENGING THE DEEP.
