Connect students with Queensland Museum industry professionals at Museum Meet Up, a dynamic event series exploring real-world science, culture and history through museum collections and exhibitions.
Program features:
- Interactive presentation with a museum expert
- Hands-on group activity where students work with real historical objects or scientific specimens to build investigation skills
- Facilitated exploration and guided discussion through the relevant gallery or exhibition
Themed programs are offered on select dates in Terms 2 – 4, with a rotating schedule of experiences, led by Queensland Museum scientists, curators and researchers. These sessions align to curriculum content, bringing Science as a Human Endeavour to life, with authentic examples of research processes, collaborations, technologies, challenges, achievements and lifelong passion.
Museum Meet Up – Subsidy for Schools
Express your interest in receiving funding to visit Queensland Museum in 2027.
Thanks to the support of Morgans Foundation, we’re offering subsidised tickets for eligible schools to participate in Museum Meet Up in 2027.
This offer is open to all schools experiencing socio-educational disadvantage (ICSEA below 1000) within the Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast, Gympie, Toowoomba and Ipswich City Local Government Areas. If your school meets these criteria, and has not yet visited Queensland Museum Kurilpa, we warmly encourage you to apply.
2027 Museum Meet Ups:
Term 2: Meet Up with a Curator
Wednesday 21 April 2027 | $10 per student
Year 9 History
Students will connect with a museum curator to investigate the causes and impacts
of World War I, explore the experiences of Australians during the conflict and
the ongoing commemoration and legacy of the war.
This program explores Australia's involvement in the First World War through the
museum's collections, historical objects and the Anzac Legacy Gallery.
Term 2: Meet Up with a Palaeontologist
Wednesday 5 May 2027 | $10 per student
Years 3 – 6 Biological
Science
As part of Queensland Dinosaur Week students will explore prehistoric Queensland
in this special Museum Meet Up guided by a palaeontologist.
Students will dig into ancient environments and fossil evidence including
dinosaurs and megafauna found in regional Queensland and learn how
palaeontologists use observation, technology and scientific evidence to
reconstruct past life and understand changes to life on Earth.
Term 3: Meet Up with an Archaeologist
Wednesday 25 August 2027 | $25 per student
Years 7 – 8 Ancient
History
Students will explore the significance of the Terracotta Army through the extraordinary Terracotta Warriors exhibition, investigate the reign of Qin Shi Huang, and uncover how archaeology helps us understand ancient Chinese society, belief systems and technological achievement.
Term 4: Meet Up with a First Nations Curator
Wednesday 27 October 2027 | $10 per student
Years 5 – 7 History
Students will explore the enduring knowledge, traditions and living cultures of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in connection to Queensland Museum's new gallery developed in partnership with communities. Guided by our Principal Curator, First Nations Cultures, the session will highlight the significance of the stories and objects presented, and how they reflect deep histories and thriving cultures.
