Inspire connection and engage in First Nations traditions.

Held each year in July, NAIDOC Week celebrates and recognises the history, cultures and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. The 2025 theme The Next Generation: Strength, Vision and Legacy celebrates not only the achievements of the past but the bright future ahead, empowered by the strength of young leaders, the vision of communities, and the legacy of ancestors.
 
Join us at the museum during NAIDOC Week for a community-led program designed to enrich your learning, appreciation and perspective of First Nations history.

Yugambeh Youth Choir Performance

Celebrate NAIDOC Week with a morning of songs performed by the Yugambeh Youth Choir. Founded in 2014 by yarrabilginngunn (songwoman) Dr Candace Kruger, the choir weaves together traditional language, instruments and movement to share stories about Country.  

When: Wednesday 9 July 2025. Performances at 10am & 11.30am (approximately 30 minutes duration)

Maker Space: My Dilly Bag!

We’re making dilly bags at the Maker Space in SparkLab! Join us as we blend traditional Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander bag weaving techniques with everyday materials. How much weight can your dilly bag hold and what types of items could you carry? Experiment with different fibers and construction techniques to perfect your dilly bag whilst learning about Australia’s Indigenous cultures.

When: 4 July 2025 - 23 July 2025

First Nations Hip Hop Dance Workshop for Kids

Join the rhythm these school holidays with First Nations Hip Hop Dance Workshop for Kids, led by Butchulla, South Sea Islander and Gubbi Gubbi artist and performer Georgie Baumann! These sessions will fuse modern hip-hop moves with First Nations storytelling and cultural expression, creating a fun and empowering experience for young movers. Through dynamic choreography, rhythm, and movement, participants will connect with the vibrant traditions of Indigenous culture while celebrating the powerful role of dance in community and identity.

Museum Meet Up Term 3: Celebrating Our First Nations

Schools and education groups are invited to meet Queensland Museum’s First Nations Team in this special NAIDOC week edition of the Museum Meet Up. In this exclusive program, students will hear about the daily work of our newly formed First Nations team. From behind-the-scenes at the museum to repatriation and community engagement, the team will highlight the important contributions and rich stories of Aboriginal People and Torres Strait Islander People through the museum’s engagement in research, collections, exhibitions, programming and returning Ancestors and cultural materials to Country.

When: Thursday 17 July 2025. 10am - 1:30pm.
Cost: $10 per student
