Explore the science and stories of the sea these spring school holidays at Queensland Museum Kurilpa.

Your Stories from the Sea ticket will unlock a day of fun across the museum with a range of school holiday activities.

Sea of Light by Patch Theatre 

From 10am daily, every 45 minutes. Session time must be booked. 

Embark on a magical journey with Sea of Light by acclaimed children’s theatre company Patch Theatre. In this interactive light installation, watch your imagination come to life using a UV torch as your paintbrush. Paint your own voyage and steer ships that leave glowing paths of light in their wake.

Artworks by Aboriginal Contemporary Visual Artist Elizabeth Close are painted in light across the sea floor. These paintings speak to the connection between land and sea, earth and water, and draw inspiration from the diverse Australian landscape.

Deep Dive Talks with Queensland Museum experts 

10am and 2pm (Drop-in)
Dive into the science of the sea with real life scientists and experts who will amaze you with fun facts about life under the sea.

Craft a sea creature and build a reef

9:30am - 4pm (Drop-in)
Create sea creatures from recycled and natural materials, exploring ocean habitats and sustainability as you build.

Children’s Activity Trail: First Nations Stories

Collect a copy of your trail from the Cloak Room. Free for all museum visitors.
With your map and clues in hand, come on an adventure to discover the rich stories of Queensland’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples at Queensland Museum Kurilpa.

Tips for booking your Stories from the Sea ticket:

  • When purchasing your ticket, identify the Sea of Light session you wish to attend. Please choose this time carefully as we are unable to reschedule your ticket. Your ticket then allows you to drop in to other sessions at the schedule time and at your leisure on that same day.
  • Develop your itinerary according to which timed sessions you wish to attend.
  • Limit of 1 free Accompanying Adult ticket per Child ticket purchased. Extra Adult tickets can be purchased.
  • To book a group of 10 or more, please call QTIX on 136 246.

Sensory Advisory - Sea of Light

 This experience includes:

  • Use of haze (fog effect)
  • Moving lights
  • Projected images

These effects may impact visitors with sensory sensitivities.

Relaxed Sessions: We’re limiting the capacity and turning down the sound for our Relaxed sessions. Please note that Sea of Light Relaxed sessions will still include some slow-moving lights and a minimal soundscape as part of this experience.

Talks with our museum experts are scheduled daily. You’ll hear about topics such as bioluminescence, sea totems, the enchanting world of deep ocean creatures, turtles, marine parasites and more!

Your ticket identifies which session of Sea of Light you are booked in to. You can go to any of the Stories from the Sea activities on the day.

No, one wristband per person, not transferrable.

No, your ticket does not give you entry into SparkLab. You can purchase SparkLab tickets here.

Accompanying adult is free. Contact us for further access requirements as needed. 

This program is not catered for children under 3. Accompanying babes in arms are free and do not require a ticket.  Please check the QTIX page for ticketing.

Anyone 16+ requires an adult ticket, program is recommended for ages 4-12.
