Explore the science and stories of the sea these spring school holidays at Queensland Museum Kurilpa.
Your Stories from the Sea ticket will unlock a day of fun across the museum with a range of school holiday activities.

Embark on a magical journey with Sea of Light by acclaimed children’s theatre company Patch Theatre. In this interactive light installation, watch your imagination come to life using a UV torch as your paintbrush. Paint your own voyage and steer ships that leave glowing paths of light in their wake.
Artworks by Aboriginal Contemporary Visual Artist Elizabeth Close are painted in light across the sea floor. These paintings speak to the connection between land and sea, earth and water, and draw inspiration from the diverse Australian landscape.

Dive into the science of the sea with real life scientists and experts who will amaze you with fun facts about life under the sea.
9:30am - 4pm (Drop-in)
Create sea creatures from recycled and natural materials, exploring ocean habitats and sustainability as you build.
Collect a copy of your trail from the Cloak Room. Free for all museum visitors.
With your map and clues in hand, come on an adventure to discover the rich stories of Queensland’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples at Queensland Museum Kurilpa.

Relaxed Sessions: We’re limiting the capacity and turning down the sound for our Relaxed sessions. Please note that Sea of Light Relaxed sessions will still include some slow-moving lights and a minimal soundscape as part of this experience.

Anyone 16+ requires an adult ticket, program is recommended for ages 4-12.
The touring of Sea of Light by Patch Theatre would not be possible without the support of the Government of South Australia, Creative Australia and the James & Diana Ramsay Foundation. The original Sea of Light was commissioned by the Art Gallery of South Australia and Illuminate Adelaide in 2021.
