Explore the science and stories of the sea these spring school holidays at Queensland Museum Kurilpa.

Your Stories from the Sea ticket will unlock a day of fun across the museum with a range of school holiday activities.  

Build your itinerary to discover hands-on activities and experiences inspired by the sea:

  • Embark on a journey of light and imagination in Patch Theatre’s Sea of Light
  • Meet our marine experts in interactive talks for children
  • Craft your own sea creature and bring a reef to life
  • Explore First Nations stories in our brand-new Children’s Trail
  • Listen to stories from the sea in our Storytime sessions

Sea of Light by Patch Theatre 

From 10am daily, every 45 minutes. Session time must be booked. 

Embark on a magical journey with Sea of Light by acclaimed children’s theatre company Patch Theatre. In this interactive light installation, watch your imagination come to life using a UV torch as your paintbrush. Paint your own voyage and steer ships that leave glowing paths of light in their wake.

Artworks by Aboriginal Contemporary Visual Artist Elizabeth Close are painted in light across the sea floor. These paintings speak to the connection between land and sea, earth and water, and draw inspiration from the diverse Australian landscape.

Deep Dive Talks with Queensland Museum experts 

10am and 2pm
Dive into the science of the sea with real life scientists who will amaze you with fun facts about life under the sea.

Craft a sea creature and build a reef

Drop-in
Create sea creatures from recycled and natural materials, exploring ocean habitats and sustainability as you build.

First Nations Children’s Trail 

Collect a copy of your trail on entry
With your map and clues in hand, come on an adventure to discover the rich stories of Queensland’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples at Queensland Museum Kurilpa.

Relaxed Sessions: We’re limiting the capacity and turning down the sound for our Relaxed sessions. Please note that Sea of Light Relaxed sessions will still include some slow-moving lights and a minimal soundscape as part of this experience.
